A diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease is not a death sentence, but it does mean that your quality of life is going to be very compromised, or even outright horrible, unless you are proactive and attack it every single day.
Parkinson's may have taken my singing voice but it hasn't touched my heart and desire to fight back with a vengeance and purpose. All of us can fight together; we MUST accept the challenge, embrace it, and overcome!
My involvement with Rock Steady Boxing at the House of Champions in Los Angeles has done more than anything to relieve my symptoms. I have personally seen near miracles take place with some of my fellow Boxing-mates as we all come together and fight this nasty disease. You will be hard-pressed to find a neurologist that can help you the way that boxing can. Regardless, you must do something - anything! Bike, walk, swim, play basketball, or even dancing is fabulous; it's all about challenging and pushing yourself both physically and mentally.
You have to fight back and NEVER give up!
We are learning every day that there are ways for people with Parkinson’s disease to enhance their daily quality of life and even build impressive power, strength, flexibility, and speed! By exercising with coaches who know the ropes with a training program tailored specifically to combat Parkinson's, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better. Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion, while continuously changing the routine and challenging your mind as you progress through each workout.
